Beaches

There are five major beaches located in the northern and southern territories of Loreto, all easily accessible to the public and providing various activities for tourists to indulge in. These five Loreto beaches are Nopolo, Tripui, Isla Coronado, Playa Loreto, and Isla del Carmen. Below are short descriptions of the beaches and activities most often associated with them.

Nopolo Beach

Nopolo Beach is quite close to the airport as well as their local golf course and tennis courts. Apart from having very secluded areas adjacent to breathtaking cliffs (Nopolo Beach is very close to La Sierra de la Giganta), Nopolo beach is also somewhat known as being among the best starting places for more unconventional vacation activities such as whale-watching (visitors are also sometimes allowed to swim with the whales), deep-sea fishing, and scuba diving.

Tripui Beach

Tripui Beach is found at the southern part of Loreto, accessible via a charming dirt road going westwards of Puerto Escondido (Hidden Fort in English). It is among the most uncrowded beaches in Loreto Loreto proper, giving anyone who wants privacy as much as one needs. It is said to be ideal for quiet strolls or picnics in the coves, often catered to and facilitated by Tripui Park. There are nearby hotels to accommodate travelers who wish to explore this lovely stretch of sand.

Isla Coronado

Located at the north-eastern part of Loreto, Isla Coronado (Crowned Island in English) is accessible only via a short boat ride (it takes a mere half-hour). There are many services – nearby hotels also sometimes arrange for this – that allow visitors to experience the journey to the island. The beaches of Isla Coronado (particularly its southern stretches) are quite private and are known for their spectacular beauty. The features of this Loreto beach are ideal for picnics and explorations.

Playa Loreto

Playa Loreto (Loreto Beach in English) could be found at the norther reaches of the town of Loreto, near the marina. Like the other beaches, this one boasts of the opportunity for privacy. It stretches from the marina and northwards, sprinkling the borders of town with golden-brown sand. The further north you go, the quieter it gets. It is thought to be the longest stretch of beach in Loreto. Because of its proximity to the marina, guests are able to engage in activities like sport-fishing in Playa Loreto.

Isla del Carmen

Located to the south of Loreto, Isla del Carmen (Carmen’s Island) could be reached by a thirty-five-minute boat ride. It’s best known for it whit sandy beach in an ecologically preserved cove. Among the protected beaches in the world, Isla del Carmen is also supposed to be the best starting point for activities such as snorkeling.

All the beaches of Loreto are also famed for their warm water, ideal for swimming at any time of the day. Loreto beaches are truly very good reasons to stay in the sunshine.
