Golf
Among the more popular developed areas in Loreto is the Campo de Golf Loreto (Loreto Golf Course in English), which could be found in Nopolo, nine kilometers south of the town proper. The Campo de Golf Loreto offers a fairly difficult par seventy-two course with eighteen holes and two man-made lakes. Built in 1991 and set against the contrasting backdrop of Loreto itself, the Campo de Golf Loreto offers an experience that cannot be easily forgotten and has succeeded in further promoting Loreto as a tourist destination.
Among the most attractive features of the Campo de Golf Loreto is the fact that instead of taking over the terrain of the land, it instead worked with it. The spot incorporates in itself several features of Loreto’s natural landscape such as the sands of the desert, the rocks of the mountains and cliff sides, the lines of the coasts (some even say that there are several holes right by the Sea of Cortes) and several native plant life. The success of this golf course prompted several of Loreto’s local hotels to offer golf course access and golf privileges to their clients; some include access to the Campo de Golf Loreto in their standard fee. Apart from the course itself, Campo de Golf Loreto also has a restaurant and bar, a pro-shop, lockers and a swimming pool for the use of their customers.
There is said to be little to no incidence of crowding when games are held in Campo de Golf Loreto, although things are beginning to change lately. The view that the course provides, as well as the challenge it brings to the most avid of golfers (you sometimes have to hit over the sea line) makes this course one of the more interesting places to have a game of golf.
Currently, Campo de Golf Loreto provides the bulk of golfing business in Loreto. However, there is news of another golf course currently being developed in Loreto by Costa Loreto. Hopefully, this project would further promote Loreto as a golfing hub.
