Restaurants

Thanks to the surge of tourists that now visit Loreto almost all year round, the market for Loreto cuisine has been opened up to new eaters and connoisseurs alike. Many restaurants and eateries have sprung up all over Loreto to cater to the palates of visitors, showing off a whole new world of cooking while at the same time also accommodating more conservative tongues of other customers. However, the primary focus of Loreto restaurants is the delivery of cooking that showcases the unique persona and heritage of Loreto itself.

Among other things, Loreto restaurants are known for their seafood. Being primarily a fishing village, Loreto provides its restaurants with fresh, prime quality sea bounty that will be then prepared and served to fill the hungriest of stomachs. Restaurants like Mita Gourmet (located right across the town’s City Hall) provide quality food as well as memorably excellent service to their customers. The meals in Mita Gourmet are served as they have been requested, and the customers are allowed to eat and chat at their own pace. The interior is also described as one with quiet sophistication with a definite local flavor.

Other Loreto restaurants, like Cafe Ole (located a block from the town’s City Hall, by the port to Loreto’s famous “historic district”), provide not only good service and food, but also a genuine Loreto atmosphere. Cafe Ole, for example, is essentially a sort of extended outdoor porch with a tiny kitchen from which the home-style cooking is prepared. This Loreto restaurant’s layout creates an particular ambiance of being part of a Loreto home as you watch the town of Loreto itself move all around you.

Following a similar vein as Cafe Ole is the oldest Loreto restaurant Canipole which, while not being quaint, provides customers with an experience of Loreto’s history. Located at a courtyard shadowed by the tower of The Mission of Loreto, meals in Canipole are prepared as the clients order, giving them time to soak in the gracefully-aged atmosphere of Loreto. The food of this Loreto restaurant has also been described as “artful” as well as “fresh” and “amazing”. Being the oldest restaurant in Loreto, Canipole is best known to serve the most authentic of Loreto meals.

For those who feel that Loreto cuisine just may not be their cup of cocoa, Loreto also has establishments that serve more universal fare – like pizza. Located three blocks west of the bus terminal of Loreto’s main avenue, Eduardo’s Pizza is a place known for its creative as well as delicious pizzas. The service has been described as excellent; the staff are friendly and funny, and Eduardo’s is a Loreto restaurant worth hanging out in. There are also other foreigner-friendly places such as Macaw’s bar (located on the Malecon), which serves really good beer and puts the NFL on television.

Wherever you may choose to be in Loreto, you are sure to never go hungry; there are more than enough restaurants in Loreto to satisfy your gastric fantasies.
